Sustainability at NTE Global is not a department. It is the cost of being allowed to operate.
Three Pillars
Environment
We care about the environment at every stage of operations: closure planning begins at the feasibility study stage. Each exploration licence is accompanied by a Closure Commitment with clear targets for vegetation restoration, soil horizon recovery, and ground stability.
Key measures:
Water recycling: a 95% closed-loop system — water is treated and returned to operations. Discharges to natural watercourses are continuously monitored and published quarterly.
Biodiversity baseline studies: independent surveys of flora, fauna, and soil microbiome are conducted before any work begins and made publicly available.
‘Net Positive Habitat’ goal by 2030: restoring more habitat value than we disrupt. Progress is tracked by site and year against the pre-mining baseline and reported in our Annual Sustainability Report.
Community
We build partnerships with local communities and invest in their development:
Local employment: 90% of staff at each site are recruited from the operational area — primarily through community outreach; open-market hiring is a last resort.
Apprenticeship programmes (Turkey, Kazakhstan): 18-month rotations in drilling, metallurgy, and equipment maintenance. Graduates receive recognised trade qualifications valid beyond NTE employment.
Community engagement: public impact sessions are held twice a year at every major site. Session minutes are published within 14 days, with named responsible parties and deadlines assigned to action items. Community members participate as voting members, not observers.
Healthcare clinics at remote sites serve both employees and surrounding communities — we co-fund them with regional health authorities.
Governance
Transparency and accountability are the foundation of our governance:
Annual reporting from 2025 undergoes third-party independent verification and is published in full on our website and with EITI secretariats in each jurisdiction.
Sustainability Committee (quarterly meetings chaired by an independent non-executive director) has direct authority to suspend or modify any operation pending environmental or social compliance review — without CEO approval.
Anonymous reporting channel is available to all employees, contractors, and community members. Reports of safety, environmental, or ethics issues are escalated directly to the Audit Committee and addressed within 48 hours. Retaliation against reporters is grounds for dismissal.
EITI compliance across all operating jurisdictions. Goal: achieve full EITI Candidate status in Kazakhstan and Turkey by 2027.
